Summary

What a superb story! I enjoyed every sentence of it (after getting used to the fact that in Irish English "to call over" obviously means "to come over" - that was totally news to me :-)。It reminded me a bit of "Desperate Housewives", which I loved so much that I cried when it was over。 What a superb story! I enjoyed Jo Spain's Dirty Little Secrets。 It was a well paced whodunit with enough suspects to keep me interested and entertained。 The use of Olive, the so called victim, to narrate some of the chapters was an entertaining if not wholly original plot device。 I enjoyed Jo Spain's Dirty Little Secrets。 It was a well paced whodunit with enough suspects to keep me interested and entertained。 The use of Olive, the so called victim, to narrate some of the chapters was an entertaining if not wholly original plot device。 。。。more

Brilliant up until the end。

Totally enjoyed the book and read in one day。 Only caveat I have is it’s a bit unrealistic that in a close neighborhood of 7 houses, no one noticed Olive was missing。 Otherwise, I liked it and would read Jo Spain again。

4 1/2 stars。 I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would。 Just going from the synopsis, I wouldn't have read it at all, but a librarian recommended it, so I decided to give it a try。 It grabbed me from the beginning。I recommended it to my husband, and he enjoyed it, too。 4 1/2 stars。 I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would。 Just going from the synopsis, I wouldn't have read it at all, but a librarian recommended it, so I decided to give it a try。 It grabbed me from the beginning。I recommended it to my husband, and he enjoyed it, too。 。。。more

this unsavorily funny tale follows several points of view, one of them coming from a corpse rotting on achair for three months, forgotten in a most neighbourly way。 ♡

Spain is and will always be a go-to for me。 Few do character drama better - for me she is on par with Ruth Ware and Jamie Mason in the must-read category for that reason。 I can't really say much more。 This is just categorically Jo Spain。 You get her。。。 or you don't。 I do。 (Although I STILL miss Tom Reynolds!) So many things happened and yet it was so oddly boring

Not a bad book, more characters in the book than fingers on your hands。 I didn’t see the twist coming but I can hardly say I’m shocked either。

An enjoyable Sunday afternoon read。 It’s probably more a 3。5 ⭐️ but I don’t feel it’s a 4。 Characters are interesting and the story moves along nicely but I don’t feel I got enough resolution in the end for the lives of the families。 I purchased after loving the Tom Reynolds series but this doesn’t quite match up。

I heard a lot of great things about this book - good word of mouth - but got bored 1/3 in。 The characters seem to bleed into one another, and as the story went on, I ended up disliking most of them。 Not the worse book I've read, but for me, it was a slog-feast。 I heard a lot of great things about this book - good word of mouth - but got bored 1/3 in。 The characters seem to bleed into one another, and as the story went on, I ended up disliking most of them。 Not the worse book I've read, but for me, it was a slog-feast。 。。。more

I loved this book and went through it at a rate of knots! Short chapters from multiple character viewpoints kept it fast paced and really intriguing。 At first it was really hard to understand how Olive was so despised in her community and, when written in her voice, her reasons for her behaviour were plausible and convincing。 As the story unfolded, I was able to empathise with her less and less, and as each characters 'dirty little secret' was reveled, the idea of how well we know the people liv I loved this book and went through it at a rate of knots! I will definitely read more novels by this author。 。。。more

This was a mindless bit of distraction but I really liked it。 I'm not entirely sure why I liked it but I did。 Almost all the characters are awful, just really not nice people, apart from the police officers investigating the death。 Even the dead person is basically a dick。 I enjoyed finding out all the secrets although having all those people living in the same gated community that appears to consist of 5 houses with those kind of secrets is pretty far fetched。 Even the children were written as This was a mindless bit of distraction but I really liked it。 I'm not entirely sure why I liked it but I did。 Almost all the characters are awful, just really not nice people, apart from the police officers investigating the death。 Even the dead person is basically a dick。 I enjoyed finding out all the secrets although having all those people living in the same gated community that appears to consist of 5 houses with those kind of secrets is pretty far fetched。 Even the children were written as potential little psychopaths, which I guess was to increase the mystery of precisely who could have killed this not-particularly-nice woman。 The only thing that threw me a bit was the only reason I know this book was set in Ireland is because the author told me。 At times it felt a little like an American writing about what they presume Irish life is like but the author lived in Dublin so that's not the case。 I don't know there was just a couple of things I thought was weird, like mentioning candy stripers in hospital which I thought were only in America but maybe not。 I've never been to Ireland so maybe my perception is just bollocks。 Anyway this book would be a good holiday read; the chapters are really short, the plot is fast paced, and you don't really need to think about where the story is going。 。。。more

Liked the Irish setting and all things Irish about the book。 Initially listened to the audio book over many journeys in the last 3 months。 We were about 3 hours from the end - when I came across a library book version and devoured it to the end quickly。 Nothing like 3 months to add mystery and anticipation to a book。 Good story and pleasing characters。

A terrific binge book! This mystery filled with domestic drama is everything I desire from a (dare I use the word pleasure) read: engaging writing; three-dimensional characters; short chapters that demand "just one more"; and a (here I go again) satisfying, although somewhat unsurprising, climax ending。It contains adult content (putting the "dirty" in the 🧺 title)。 But despite mature—and dark—themes that will make your skin crawl (as might the maggots), there's a light and breezy flow to it。 And A terrific binge book! This mystery filled with domestic drama is everything I desire from a (dare I use the word pleasure) read: engaging writing; three-dimensional characters; short chapters that demand "just one more"; and a (here I go again) satisfying, although somewhat unsurprising, climax ending。It contains adult content (putting the "dirty" in the 🧺 title)。 But despite mature—and dark—themes that will make your skin crawl (as might the maggots), there's a light and breezy flow to it。 And humor。 A beach read for any lover of this genre who has soured on it as of late or is in a book slump。TW: domestic violence; stillbirth; porn addiction 。。。more
